Hi community,
i stumbled over old reports from my colleagues which were created 2 years ago but using exactly the same dimension that i am now using for my new report from two days ago.
I checked the dimension several times for limitations or hierarchy restrictions in both reports but it is not having any limitations and should show the same values after import.
Unfortunately it doesn`t. What could be the reason for a dimension used in a old report showing different values compared to the same dimension in a new report?
Thanks for you help!
BR,
Markus
P.S.: I am a newbie in this community, so please tell me if there is misunderstanding in my descriptions.
Hi @Markus1485 ,
Welcome to the eazyBI community!
There are a few things to check when the same dimension shows different values across reports.
The report context plays a big role here. Even if a dimension has no explicit restrictions, the values shown in a report are influenced by all the other elements selected in that report.
-
Imported data
Start by checking the account with the older report, if it has the same imported data: projects, custom fields, or any JQL filters that might limit imported data (Data from Jira).
-
Selected Measures
The measure is a core element of each report and defines how dimensions are related in the report.
-
Other dimensions in the report
Each additional dimension in Rows, Columns, or Pages narrows down the combinations shown. Two dimensions that look the same in isolation may behave differently depending on what else is in the report.
-
Row/column filters
Some reports have filter row criteria that are visible only when editing the report (Create reports).
So even if the dimension itself has no restrictions, the report’s surrounding context determines which data is visible in each cell. Here is a documentation page on Troubleshooting report data.
The quickest way to replicate an old report is to export its report definition and import it into your new report setup (Export and import report definitions). That way, you get the exact same structure, filters, and context as the original, and you can compare it side by side with your new report to spot the differences.
