Report to answer "Are we getting faster at APIs"

I am going in circles on this one, but the original request is:

”I am hoping to see “Time Per API” to be going down. I’d like to see the X axis be “created date” or “date marked as done” and the Y axis be total tracked time.

I have in pages Parent Issue Type = API Issue and then I can filter by Issue Type for our Dev, BA and Dev sub-tasks.

I have Time in Rows, broken out by month.

Then Hours spent as a measure, but this shows the time spent in a given month, which does not accurately answer whether or not we are getting faster at APIs.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps you can use “average resolution days” as a metric in your report.
It would calculate the average results (duration from created till resolution) for tickets that were resolved in each period.

That can be a useful measure if you set the resolution date when tickets are marked with “Done” status in your Jira space/project.
